Real-time response has never been more important

In urgent situations, having real-time data is critical to be able to respond and assist citizens quickly.

This is equally true for researchers pursuing a vaccine, or regional governors searching for ways to optimize supply chains and other resources.

Unfortunately, response efforts have been significantly hindered by the absence of connectivity across the data sources they need to expedite timely and accurate responses. Data is held in silos belonging to different states, departments, towns, hospitals.

The current pandemic has galvanized thought leaders across the Federal, State and Local government landscape in the US, to improve collaboration. Because, even though they are a digitally connected global community, they are not a data-sharing one.  Today, data resides in thousands of distributed systems across the world.  All these systems are different, with no common data structure, and are owned and controlled by various organizations.

You could argue that it is unreasonable to expect all this data could be consolidated to a common location. However, it is completely realistic to expect that technology exists to help. It can make it possible to reach any system of record, access all data needed, and move it where it can be consolidated and analyzed to support better decision making.

This is exactly where integration software can step in and help.  Integration software allows systems, applications, organizations, countries, and other geopolitical entities to move data across technology boundaries and make it accessible where needed.

The establishment of a real-time Government Integration Hub can have a profound impact on aggregating necessary data from all its disparate locations and facilitating fast analysis of potential solutions. It would have massive scale, access to real-time data, full auditability and high security – with data independence so that it could accept, process and generate any kind of data in any format.

If this sounds like a pipe dream, it is not. Today, the webMethods platform meets these criteria and is processing billions of mission critical transactions for some of the largest government organizations and corporations in the world.

Using webMethods, Software AG has created a Government Integration Hub platform that is up and running in the Microsoft Azure Government cloud and is ready to be used by the people who need answers. For example, the Government Integration Hub operates today at the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) at the core of its current modernization efforts.
