Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett talks with Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren “on the record” about how technology stopped statewide fraud and waste.
Before JNET, the state’s Justice Information system, and the Department of Labor’s systems were connected, a large number of prison inmates were fraudulently claiming unemployment benefits.
With the implementation of a powerful Integration platform coupled with real-time monitoring, alerting and analytics, the JNET and Department of Labor’s systems were connected.
This statewide system has created significant visibility across JNET and the Depart of Labor. Now it is possible to validate whether a person requesting unemployment benefits is in jail and if so, stop any payments.
So far, $7million has been saved in the Philadelphia area alone. Savings from fraud detection and waste management could easily amount to more than $100 million in a year.
Every State in the US has the same problem and, as Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett said: “technology can help.”
